Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Annual NVCA Auction & Dinner?

The NVCA Auction & Dinner is our school's largest annual fundraising event! The money raised at the auction helps offset the costs of educating each child at NVCA. By supporting the auction, you are providing technology, supporting necessary teaching and staff positions, and contributing to school activities, such as specialized subjects, our B.E.S.T. Program, Theatre, Athletics, and S.T.E.M. lab.

Is it true that the tuition parents pay does not cover the full cost of a child's
education?

Yes, it's true! The money raised at the auction and dinner helps bridge the 20% gap between expenses covered by tuition and the cost of providing each student an exceptional NVCA education.

Is the event entertaining?

The dinner is a super fun night out! Whether you are a new NVCA parent or a long-time member of the NVCA family, it is hands down a great night with old and new friends…and for a good cause!

What happens at the auction?

At 4:45 p.m. the registration desk opens, and guests may check in. The silent auction begins at 5:00 p.m. We will have two sections that will close at 6:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy bidding and socializing while enjoying beer, wine, or a signature cocktail (nonalcoholic beverages are also available). Following the silent auction, the evening continues. A lovely dinner will be served, and the auctioneer will kick off the event with our Heads or Tails game followed by lively bidding on exciting trips, exclusive experiences, plus our always popular school perks. The live auction lasts until about 9:30. Stick around for a “not-to-be-missed” student performance!

What is "Dead or Alive?"

This is an elimination game with a $20 entry fee. The MC will read the name of an athlete, entertainer, or famous person. Players stand and guess if that individual is alive or has passed away by giving a predetermined sign. If they are incorrect, they sit. The last person standing is declared the winner of a tremendous gift!

What is "Wine Pull"?

Pull a cork and win the matching wine bottle!  It’s a surprise; each cork costs $25.  You may win a $100 bottle of wine!

What does it cost for a person to attend, and how do we sign up?

Each NVCA family will receive a printed invitation in the mail in November. Purchase tickets online at northvalleyca.org/auction.

Are my purchases tax-deductible?

Amounts paid over the listed value of a package are tax-deductible. Your auction receipt will itemize the price you paid and the value of each package you purchased. Keep this receipt for your tax records.

Where does the auction & dinner take place?

Each year the auction committee plans a great event, and each year it's a little bit different. This year it will be held at Anthem Country Club located at 41551 North Anthem Hills Drive, Anthem, AZ 85086.

Do the students get to come to the auction & dinner?

No. This is an adult-only party. Parents, please line up your babysitters so you can enjoy an evening out!

What do I wear to this event?

Everyone always has fun dressing up, so your favorite dresses and ties are perfect!

How will we know what the auction items are?

Please check out our online catalog at northvalleyca.org/auction.

What types of items are typically auctioned off?

There is something for everyone! There are gift certificates to restaurants, spa services for people who like to be pampered, wine and other spirits, tickets to sporting events and other family outings, and amazing trips! You can even buy your child's teacher a day off, win a front-row seat at school performances, have your child be head of school for a day, or name the school driveway!

Silent auction vs. live auction?

At the dinner, we have both a silent auction and a live auction. For the silent auction, the items up for auction will be on display for the first two hours of the evening. New in 2021, we are excited to offer mobile bidding, so please bring your cell phones. Pay attention to bidding close times. If you are not watching, you may be outbid on your favorite item!

The live auction portion of the evening is exactly what you picture with respect to an auction—an auctioneer and fast-paced bidding! This is a very fun part of the evening, and the bidding wars can be epic! But it is all in good fun.

Do I have to buy something at the auction?

No, you are not required to buy anything at the event. However, all proceeds that are raised at the auction benefit NVCA and the students. The auction team makes sure items are up for auction at a variety of price points. So please contribute as your heart leads you. At the very least, be sure to come out for a fun night with the NVCA family.

Will there be anything at the auction that I can afford?

Our auction committee works hard to ensure that there are packages with a variety of values. Guests can spend anywhere from $25 to several thousand dollars. Plus, there are always deals to be had by alert bidders in the silent auction.

What is the difference between procuring and donating?

Procuring involves asking a third party to contribute an item for the auction; donating is contributing an item or cash for the auction from your own resources.

I’ve never tried to procure an item before. Where do I start?

If you are interested in helping procure items, please reach out to the auction committee to get started.  You will also find a sample donation request letter on our website..

Are there any businesses that I should not contact for a donation?

Yes. The auction committee has been hard at work securing sponsorships and donated items. There is a list available on our website of businesses that have agreed to sponsor our event, have generously donated an item, or have declined to participate this year. This list will continue to be updated as we get closer to the Dinner. We ask that you avoid contacting these businesses, unless you have a personal relationship with someone who owns or works there and feel it would be appropriate.

Where and/or how do I log the item I have procured or donated?

Fill out the online “Donate” form (allows for procured or donated items/cash) on the NVCA website OR turn in a completed Procurement Form to the school office. All forms (paper form or online) are due by January 31, 2021.

What is OneCause and how is it different from our website?

OneCause is the online software and auction site that NVCA has subscribed to for this event. The website and accompanying software house all our auction information from item procurement to check-out the night of the auction. Online ticket purchases are also processed through OneCause. Separate from OneCause, our website is where you will find all auction related forms and information specific to the auction and dinner.

How can I help? I work full-time and don’t have much free time to spare.

There are many ways to contribute to this event. Can you stuff envelopes at home? Are you able to pick up donations from local area businesses on weekends? Can you plan a party via email? Will you offer your time and energy to help with decorations or setup on auction day? Or can you lend some muscle power to the heavy lifting? Send us an email and let us know how you can help or stay tuned for our sign-up genius and grab a spot. There are many volunteer opportunities available during the auction (even for those attending the event) so we’re confident you’ll find something that fits your schedule.

How do I learn more about volunteering?

We will hold monthly (and then weekly) auction meetings, beginning in September.
Watch The Weekly Pride for dates and times.
